The Line, 500-метровый небоскреб, протяженностью 170 км, в котором будут проживать девять миллионов человек, появится на северо-западе Саудовской Аравии. Это один из самых последних примеров городов будущего, но не единственный. Известные архитектурные студии, такие как BIG, Foster + Partners, OMA, MAD Architects и другие помогают планировать города будущего, и часто утверждают, что проектируют их с акцентом на устойчивое развитие и гуманное отношение к природе. За разработку концепции первого в истории плавучего города Oceanix взялось датское архитектурное бюро BIG (Группа Бьярке Ингельса) в 2019 году. Проект получил поддержку ООН.

Чтобы приспособиться к быстрому росту населения, жители прибрежных городов создают в океане песчаные насыпи, на которых возводят новые здания. Подобные проекты часто разрушают хрупкую морскую среду обитания и могут быть частично затоплены в течение десятилетия из-за быстрого повышения уровня воды. Модульная конструкция плавучего города Oceanix решает обе эти проблемы, сообщает портал Elle.ru[37].

«Устойчивые плавучие города являются частью арсенала доступных нам стратегий адаптации к изменению климата. Вместо того чтобы бороться с водой, давайте научимся жить в гармонии с ней. Мы с нетерпением ожидаем разработки решений по адаптации к климату и природным условиям с помощью концепции плавучего города, и Пусан является идеальным выбором для строительства прототипа», — заявляет исполнительный директор ООН-Хабитат Маймуна Мохд Шариф[38].
