«Хабеас корпус акт» (Habeas Corpus Act) — закон, принятый английским парламентом в 1679 г., определяющий правила ареста и привлечения к суду. Данный закон также предоставлял суду право контролировать законность задержания и ареста подданных (подробнее см.: Habeas Corpus Act, 1679//EHD. Vol. 8. P. 92–96). Отмена Хабеас корпус акта облегчила бы короне возможность борьбы с политической оппозицией и любым инакомыслием в стране.
