Вот мой последний пример из того опыта, который мифология отказывается признавать и принимать. Писательница Черил Джарвис так описала, как она работает в одиночестве в своем домашнем кабинете:
«Здесь я погружаюсь в теплый южный воздух, в знакомую атмосферу разбросанных повсюду бумаг, подушек на кровати, пола, стола. Но больше всего я погружаюсь в тишину. Единственный шум – это тихое гудение компьютера. Я многие годы мечтала о такой комнате, но даже и представить себе не могла, как я буду входить в нее каждый день»[551].
Этот отрывок из первого абзаца главы под названием «Мотивация». Джарвис была замужем, но взяла отпуск от своего брака. Она хотела долгого уединения в своем собственном особенном месте, где она могла бы погрузиться в свои мысли и свою работу и ее бы никто не прерывал. Чего она действительно хотела – по крайней мере на какое – то время, – это побыть одинокой.
